Tell me how each of these activities relate to the affects of economic globalization on your life?

Reread page 9 about the guy who works for The Home Depot and what he buys at the various stores. When you read this know who is the Consumer, what is a Transnational and what is Outsourcing (see page 10)

Tell me what you do that compares to the above scenario. Whatever is here is what we're doing.

Social Studies 10-2 seeks to address and clarify some of the various issues and fundamental questions concerning the concept known as GLOBALIZATION . We will focus on these questions as directed by the text: Living in a Globalizing World. There are four Units which each attempt to address a major theme of Globalization. The various issues of this concept are addressed through different cultural perspectives and points of view.

Unit One begins with an exploration of the question, "To what extent should globalization shape identity?"---How does globalization impact your life?

Unit Two explores the question of the various legacies of historical globalization and asks us how we as Canadians should respond to these legacies.

Unit Three examines to what extent globalization contributes to sustainable prosperity for all people.

Unit Four asks to what extent as Canadian citizens we should respond to and embrace globalization.

The course you are engaged in focuses on the role of active Canadian citizenship and identity during this 21'st century. This new program that you are engaged in incorporates multiple perspectives including Aboriginal and Francophone that contribute to Canada's evolving realties. Students should develop critical thinking skills necessary to process events and respond to them in our increasingly globalized world.

Course Evaluation:

Minor Assignments: 40%
Major Assignments: 30%
Unit Exams: 30%

Your grade will be composed of 70% of the semester's work and the final exam which is 30%. You will earn 5 credits upon completion of this course.

Responsibility: It is your job to be here for this course prepared with the textbook you will be receiving and your writing equipment, pencils, pens, paper etc.

It is also your job to bring your enthusiasm and imagination!

What's Going on in ELA 9

ELA 9-- There are three grade 9 courses that I am teaching this semester.
